I don't think it has to do with "age" as much as how aware they become of their surroundings. It's kinda like when you are very young and in the car with your parents, you trust that they are the best drivers in the world and you aren't nervous; but, when you are older, you become aware of all the things that could happen on the road and then you are nervous. Does that make sense?

I think that your daughter is aware of all the things that "could" happen now that she's older and listening to things at school. Is she concerned about the actual "dark"--does she have a night light or perhaps she could leave her closet light on, or soft music playing in the background? Or is she concerned that "no one is home" or "near her". Has she talked about anything that she's worried about? Does she feel secure about herself and/or home life? Eventually, I think she will outgrow it and it's nothing to worry about.
