Is the goop greenish and do her little eyes look red?
It kind of sounds like conjunctivitis or an eye infection. If any of the crustiness looks greenish, I would take her to the doctor because without medical care the condition can get pretty bad and can be very contagious.
Hope this helps.
Also, I would use a very soft baby washcloth or a cotton ball dipped in clean water (no soap) to wipe from the eye corners by her nose across the closed eye towards the side of her face to remove the goop. This is what my baby book recommends for cleaning babies' eyes.
