Let me start by saying " I understand "

My family has a very unusual name. My children have taken so ribbing about the name. Let me be the first to tell you that children can be very mean when it comes to name calling. I am going to tell you what I tell my children and how they should handle this. I tell my children that if they will make jokes about themself, about what the other children are saying to them, then the other children will see that they have nothing left to joke about. As you can guess our last name is Pigg. We make fun of our name, like yes we are the pig's oink oink, and other jokes like that. My son had children making fun of him but came home from school one day and said mom you were right. After I made fun of myself the other kids left me alone.

I am not saying that this is a cure for everything but it really seems to help.

Hope this helps you.
