SUBJECT: Amniocentesis at 34 weeks
Hi everyone. I am 33 years old and am having my 5th baby. I don't have any medical problems, no family history of problems related to pregnancy or childbirth and the 5 sonograms I have had with this child has always shown that she is just fine and developing normally. I am 34 weeks pregnant. My last child was born less than one hour after labor began and 16 minutes after arriving at the hospital. I was 39 weeks and have had all my children at 39 weeks. The child before last, was delivered while they were doing the epidural while I was laying on my side. They didn't have time to finish it. I have never had any problems with any of my pregnancies and the only problem with delivery was with the last one because she had to be suctioned due to swallowing the first bowel movement. Each child has gotten quicker and quicker. My doctor has agreed to induce at 39 weeks, but I am TERRIFIED that I will go into labor sooner and deliver outside the hospital. I lay awake at night thinking and worrying about it. I have talked to him and he says that the only way he will go earlier than 39 weeks is to do an amniocentesis to check lung developement. I understand that he doesn't want to be responsible for it if something happens due to the inducing, but I am more concerned about the risk of delivering this baby without him. I was wondering if anyone else has ever had this done at 34 weeks. I have tried to research this and it's hard to find any info for amnio in the third trimester. I just know that if I go into labor on my own, I WILL NOT MAKE IT TO THE HOSPITAL. Also, does anyone know what I can do to help keep myself from going into labor early? Are there other altenatives to having an amniocentesis? Help someone....
Thanks, Boons
