| Well, I haven't done much research on Gripe water, though I've read that it does have alcohol in it... I guess that's why I never really considered it. My sons reflux was terribly bad at one time, and although its MUCH better now, he still gets it in "spurts". My doctor said reflux is actually very common in babies, much more so than they used to think... so I'm surprised your Dr. acted that way. I would consider switching. I always switch Dr's if I don't feel comfortable with them. She did prescribe Zantac and even ordered an upper GI x-ray to ease my mind (I thought that was great of her not to blow me off). I was also weary about giving my son any medication, but during his "bouts", the reflux bothers him terribly. So I only give it to him if its one of those times. My doctor said that Zantac doesn't actually decrease the reflux, just makes it more comfortable for the baby during the episodes (I guess by reducing the acidity). I'm sorry to hear about your son, I was terribly saddened when my son was at his worst. As I said earlier, am so grateful that his formula change helped him all around (he had been having BM problems as well). It did take about 2 weeks of Nutramigen to see a change, but previously we had tried Soy and the funny thing was that he was fine on that for several weeks before having an awful reflux "attack" on that as well.
