SUBJECT: 9 mos. old - no luck with naps - HELP
I have a (nearly) 9 mos. ds who WILL NOT nap in his crib. I've tried the cio for an hour in the a.m. (about 2.5 - 3 hours after he wakes up) for about a month now with little success. The BEST we've ever done is that he'll cry for 20 minutes and sleep for 15 minutes, and wake and cry for the rest of the hour. (Following Weissbluth, I'll leave him in the crib for an hour) - usually, he'll cry the whole time or "sleep" for 5 minutes. He will not be comforted, and will cry as soon as we get into his room for the a.m. nap. His happiest sleeping position is in his carseat, in the car (and usually he awakes as soon as we stop) or in my arms while nursing.

I haven't had the will to put him in his crib twice a day for naps (b/c its so painful) and will hold him through his pm nap. However, the bigger he gets, the less this works for him.

Has anyone had any luck getting such a stubborn baby to nap in his crib (a REAL nap?)? Should I be puting him down twice a day in his crib instead of waiting to get his am nap established? Is this hopeless? Any advice is appreciated.

BTW - I've tried music, puting him down with a "lovey" (he won't take a pacifier), checking on him every 10 or so minutes (he gets MORE agitated when I do this!), puting him down drowsy, puting him down asleep with no luck. I would love to get him to nap in his crib so I can spend a little one-on-one time with his sister.

Thanks,

Kris
