SUBJECT: Child has preferred left, but is stronger right
My 7 year-old daughter has strongly preferred the left hand from a very early age. Recently she just started playing baseball and can't hit or throw. I hired a trainer to help and he had her experiment with her right and is convinced she is right-handed. I followed up with a strength test using a dumbell and found she could only lift it 3 times over her head with her left, but 16 times with her right. I asked her to write her name with both hands and she does it just as well with her right (but she has never practiced it with her right!). Could I as a parent misinterpreted her early preference and incorrectly continued to encourage her to use the wrong hand for tasks?
