| I have passed two kidney stones and the first one was when I was 8 days away from my scheduled C-section with my 2nd baby. I thought I was going into labor when I started having horrible back pains and the constant urge to pee. When I got to the hospital, they told me that they couldn't really do the normal kidney stone tests due to the fact that I was 38 weeks pregnant (and huge to boot!)I just thought that I would go ahead and have my section and bring my baby home, but they made me go home and come back when I was scheduled. I was not truly in labor, but the stress of the pain was causing me to contract irregularly. It was not fun! All they could do for me was hook me up to an IV and give me some pain medication so that I would be able to pass the stone. Eventually, the pain left the same way that it came on--it just left after I went to the bathroom for the hundreth time. My second stone came one night at about 2 in the morning when my third child was about 5 months old. I don't know if the pregnancy had anything to do with it or not. My first doc said that when women are pregnant, their flow of urine is not as forceful as it usually is, causing the normal crystals found in urine to "snowball" together and form a stone. That's the only reason that I was given for having kidney stones at all. The second one (in a different state with different doctors) said that I could go to a urologist and have my diet analyzed to find out if it was something that I was eating or drinking causing the stones. I drink bottled water and I didn't go for the analysis. I drink lots of water and on the first sign of anything feeling slightly strange when I urinate, I take cranberry pills and up the water intake. It seems to help every time and I just watch what I eat and drink and try to be as healthy as I can. I know that's a lot of info., but I hope it helps. I'm due in June with #4 and I hope to ward off the dreaded painful stones myself. Good luck! |
