Hi I am a mother of two beautiful children. One boy and one girl. My daughter is 12 and she is an AIG student(AcademicallyIntellectuallyGifted. When I went to school that was called Regents. She is seventh grade doing 8th grade work. However, my wonderful son, ugh!!. He is eight years old in the second grade and fixing to repeat. One problem we started seeing was he couldn't focus(stay with the teacher)and the school of course blamed me and TV games. Then I regulated his free time only allowing 30 minutes a day playing his game machines during the week and if he had a good week then 1hour on weekends. Well the complaining never quit and they ended up costing my job for me by calling 3 times a day. Well I complained to the superintendent of schools and he changed my sons teacher. Now we are still having problems. Then one day I was talking to a teacher that use to be a special ed teacher. I told him that they complain that he isn't writing things down. He gets good grades with oral work. In case i didn't tell you my son is left-handed. He is very book smart orally but unfortunately they don't care about his boredom in class and give him a hard time for not being able to put words on the paper. Don't get me wrong he can write however, he cannot get his hand to cooperate with his brain as far as organizing thoughts or words to put on paper. This school has a program called SWAT and also a program called ECP. The SWAT program is suppose to meet to discuss children having problems. They are then suppose to refer them to programs like ECP(ExceptionalChildrensProgram). My biggest problem in this case is they have been telling me since October that they were gonna SWAT my son but they hadn't done it until a week ago. Now the school year is almost over and he will not be able to catch up now. They have this child so upset from them constantly badgering him for his faults that he doesn't care if he is ever there. To top it off they just suspended him from school the day before which he was suppose to be tested for Academics. They told me he said a sexual remark and was making jestures toward a little girl in his class. However, when I disciplined him for this I found out that wasn't so. He says he told a boy that this little girl had no underwear on. When I asked him how he knew that he said he could see. This little girl wears belly tops and hip hugger jeans to school. Well it wasn't a good idea to tell others however it also wasn't a good idea for the principal to tell me one story and the teacher another. I have been told that children with learning difficulties will sometimes act out. Well he called it "Irratical learning disorder" something to do with hand and eye coordination learning. He said you can teach your child something at point a but then when they get to point b he will have to be taught again. Well all I know is I need some closure on this mess with solutions for answers. HELP. I am on the verge of sueing the school for all they have put me through.
