My second daughter and my son were similar in size. You left out an important consideration--which is birth weight. If your son were 10 lbs at birth, yes, he might be too small. But if he were around 7 lbs this could be a perfectly appropriate weight--what is most important is a pattern of growth and wellness.

As for "only" taking 6 oz of formula at once...the average 160 lb adult has a 32 oz stomach. Proportionately this means that a 16 lb baby would have a 3.2 oz stomach--this is a serious simplification since a baby's head is proportionately larger than an adult's, so the baby's stomach would actually be *smaller.* But anyway, considering this stomach size, 6 oz of milk for an 18 lb baby is not surprising. That your son takes 6 oz at once is testimony to the stretchability of the stomach! Part of the reason why breastfed babies feed more frequently than bottlefed babies is that they eat smaller amounts at once. It may also explain some of why breastfed babies do not gain as much weight as adults--they are not conditioned from infancy to feel that a stretched out stomach is what "full" feels like.
