Me, I never really did lullabies with words to my kids...and when I did, they were generally words I made up on the spur of the moment, real and nonsense, English and Spanish (Spanish is so pretty for singing!)...and to off-the-wall tunes.
Strangely enough, my favourite tune for singing to colicky children is a Christmas carol. It's soothing... I don't remember the name (I =think= it's "The Coventry Carol"...but it has the line "loo-lay the little tiny child, bye-bye loo-lee, loo-lay" in it.
I general sang, hummed breathed this while holding the baby to my shoulder and swaying from back and forth -- from my feet upward. Seemed to help...and it certainly never hurt!
I've heard from a friend -- one who's had a baby muchMUCH more recently than mine -- that she goes for Gregorian chants. Now THAT's different!!
What do other folks use to lull their little ones? | | | |
