AUTHOR: Kim B-P | | | I would recommend that you explore options available for training or tutoring in the Orton-Gillingham multisensory approach to learning. Most dyslexia associations should be familiar with the orton-gillingham approach and more than likely provide training in orton-gillingham, or can steer you in the right direction.
The explicit focus of the o-g approach has been and continues to be upon persons with the kinds of language processing problems associated with dyslexia.
From what I have been told, Linda Bell-Mood explores auditory discrimination and phonological awareness in-depth yet could be described as almost pre-orton-gillingham. It is also a much more expensive option.
Something else worth investigating is a manual written by Lorna Bennett, Phsycologist with the North Vancouver school district in BC, Canada. The kit is called "Launch into Reading Success" and provides step-by-step games and lesson plans. It is preventative in nature, is designed to screen pre-school or kindergarten age children, and is parent or volunteer friendly. | | | |
