SUBJECT: Daycare says 'No Blankie!' - Help!!!!!
My daughter was in a home daycare with one other boy her age from the time she was 3 months old. I (as well as the other mom) switched our kids to a small daycare center when they turned 1. My daughter has always needed a cloth diaper as her security blanket and needs it to this day. Last week the director approached me and said that we 'had to get rid of her security blanket because it is causing problems'. There are only two other infants in her group (one being her friend from the previous daycare)and i have never seen any 'issues' between them due to the blanket. When i asked the director what type of problems they wouldn't get into any details. She is currently 15 months old and has been diagnosed with Failure to Thrive. One of the only ways i can get her to eat is if she has her cloth with her. I feel this alone is reason enough NOT to take it away from her. She also will not sleep without it. Daycare is not understanding this. One weekend my husband and i tried to take it away and it was a disaster, she would get so upset she would vomit. We try to hide it from her when she does drop it, and she can go an hour or two without it but i don't feel it is fair to take it away from her completely like daycare is asking. am i wrong or is daycare being too strict?
