SUBJECT: feeding a 3 1/2 month old cereal
I am having some trouble. I have a big baby, weighing over 15 lbs at 3 and 1/2 months. He is still nursing every three hours and is very hungry at each session. He is also up as frequently as 4 times a night. The other day. I decided to try rice cereal. I mixed 3 tbsp of breast milk with 1.5 tbsp. of cereal. He took it from a sppon happily, and did not eat again for 5 hours, (I also nursed him first.) I did this once in the morning and before bedtime. My baby now has an endless stream of dirty diapers and fairly uncomfortable looking bowel movements. I am not sure whether this is a temporary thing and his system will adjust or whether he is not ready for cereal. I find this hard to believe, b/c my mother started my on cereal at two weeks in the 70's...has thast much changed? Should I try putting the cereal in a bottle or stop it all together? I am very confused, but have no other way of satisfying his hunger. I also supplement!
