My wife had both my daugthers ears pieced as infants. I personaly think 16 is an appropriate age but then agian times sure are changing. Our sixteen year old babysitter who is a polite and very smart kid hase a nose ring. I think piercing (particularly the belly button) seems to suggest that the girl is easy. I am probably way off base but I am conservitive and find that kids today try to look and act to old to soon (the Brittney Spears syndrome)so I will try to encourage and council my girls not to do these things. They are 5 and 10 so I may be in for some surprises when they get older. Anyway good luck I say wait but if you give in at least it's just the ears.
Good Luck
