SUBJECT: 10 year old daughter "claims" to hate school
My daughter (I'm the Dad) is very anxious about school. She is in the 5th grade and she starts getting nervouse on Sunday in anticipation of school Monday. She has many friends although she claims she is unpopular. We spend a lot of time together as a family and I think her anxiety is not so much a dislike for school as it is seperation anxiey. Recently I found a print out on the computer that was the result of an online quiz about school anxiety that she took. I don't know what the questions were but she scored in a range that suggests she is miserable in school and it suggested she get counselling. Her school is a terrific one and encourages parentel visits, both my wife and I attend all funtions and visit her for lunch and in the classroom as many other parents do. I feel on one hand she is exagerating but recently she has claimed illness to avoid school. She is in the school band has lots of friends at school and in the nieghborhood, plays basketball in the school district but the problem remains and I am at a loss. It hurts to see her scared and sad.
