 | Help! My 5 year old son is afraid of baths because he hates getting his hair washed. He tolerates baths if he doesn't have to wash his hair, but about once a week he *needs* his hair washed, and that bath is miserable. His fear is of getting water in his eyes. I have tried tons of things--swim goggles, a bath visor, a washcloth over his eyes. As soon as his head gets wet he freaks out and jumps around (or pulls the goggles off), and ends up with water in eyes. I have tried to teach him to lay his head down in the water and get it wet without getting his eyes wet--he gets scared that his eyes will get wet, and won't do it. He is not afraid that he will drown (since I'm there), and he loves to play in water in the sink or outside--it's just a fear of water in his eyes. Has anyone else heard of this or dealt with it? Any advice? |
