My son gets upset when I drop him off at preschool sometimes, so I taught him to "hug himself" whenever he misses me, just by wrapping his arms around himself, closing his eyes, and pretending it's me. According to him, it works great! He said to me, "I still miss you, Mommy, but I feel better and I don't cry." Maybe if the child you care for hugs him/herself and pretends it's the parent, it might be of some comfort. Also, try making the goodbyes short. I found the longer I stayed, the worse it was for my son.
