I, too, believe everything happens for a reason. I recently found out that my pregnancy was a blighted ovum and had a D&C. I had an ultrasound at 7 weeks and then again at 11 weeks and the second one showed the empty sac and they said there was no heartbeat. My doc did give me the option to wait and see if I would miscarry on my own, or to have the D&C. I chose to have the D&C ASAP (a very memorable valentine's day). My doc also told me it was a chromosome thing that caused the blighted ovum. Either the sperm, egg, or both did not have 23 chromosomes and that caused the blighted ovum. Like your doc told you, mine said there may have been other problems if the child was born and lived. She also said there was no reason I should not be able to have a healthy pregnancy in the future. She said we could begin trying again after 2 regular menstrual cycles. So we're hopeful, and hearing that your doc also said that it's unlikely it will happen again is very encouraging.
Thanks for sharing your experience and good luck to you!
