If you were miscarrying, you would be bleeding red, not brown, especially at 5 months. If you are concerned, give your OB a call, or go to a clinic and ask for a heartbeat check with the doppler. If the heartbeat is strong and fast, most likely everything is fine. I had brown discharge when I was 4 months pregnant, and my doctor told me that brown discharge is not a concern in pregnancy (old blood, probably just sloughing from the placenta) but sent me for an ultrasound anyways to calm my nerves. Sure enough, baby was great. The next week I had heavy red bleeding and still didn't miscarry. My son is a healthy 4 month old now. Give your doctor a call. It will make you feel better. The stress from worrying is not good for baby.
By the way, at 5 months it is very rare to have a miscarriage.
