| Immediately after my son was born I began having diarrhea several times a day for approx. 6 weeks. I went to a gastroenterologist and he told me he thought it was giardia and put me on antibiotics. I took these for 10 days and they had no effect on my symptoms. About 3 days later the symptoms went away all by themselves. They stayed away for about 6 months and then came back w/ a bang. I thought it would go away like the last time so I waited forever to go in. This time my GE diagnosed me w/ UC and put me on 40mg of Prednisone a day and Asacol 4 tabs 3 times a day. After reading some of the other responses, I've noticed that this is a lot of medicine. I remained on this dose of prednisone for 3 months and just weaned off of it for good last week. My husband and I have talked about having another baby (my son is now 16 months)and I have talked to my OB about how this condition will effect me and my baby if I were to get pregnant again. What I gathered from her was that if you get pregnant while you are in remission, your chances of a smooth pregnancy are pretty good. If you get pregnant during a flare up, it could be pretty rough. I did some research on the effects of these medications during pregnancy and found a pretty good website. It is www.fpnotebook.com/GI145.htm if anyone is interested. I hope that all of you have pleasant pregancies and healthy babies. Hopefully I will be in the same boat as you in the next year or so. I know how stressful it can be and exciting at the same time.
