 | I am the stepmom of an eleven year old girl who is getting totally out of control. My husband and I are at our wits end trying to figure out what to do.
There are three other girls in the family. Her sisters are 16,10,and 9.
Getting to the problem.... she breaks every family rule we have. Sometimes I think she does it just to see how far she can go.
The latest escapade is that she has decided that she is going to have a boyfriend ...in her words "no matter what", an expression I have come to loathe.
The rule we set was that none of the girls could have a boyfriend until they turned 16, and then only if we determined that they were responsible enough to carry on such a relationship. Part 2 of the rule is that we must meet him and his parents first.
She has totally disobeyed this rule and is now "going out" with an older boy and bribing the little sisters with trinkets not to tell.
We have tried talking to her, but she sits there as if we are boring her and has an attiutude as if we are totally ignorant.
Today, when it was time to leave the Boys and Girls Club she sat on the sofa with her friends ignoring her father. When he came across the room to tell herthat it was time to go she burst into a full blown tantrum, got halfway across the room with him, and then ran back to her "boyfriend".
My husband was so embarrassed he could have just climbed into the nearest hole.
I keep trying to tell him that she is playing him, but he still believes that she is just an innocent child and has no idea of what she is doing?
Am I being too harsh and expecting too much? |
