I hope you will post the diagnosis your son gets. I'll be very interested! In our meetings with the school we have been told to concentrate on the positive by rewarding the good more than punishing the bad, but we both know punishing is inevitable at times. I have found that taking away his favorite thing really bothers him. That favorite thing sometimes changes over the course of a few months, and we will change the punishment accordingly. I over-praise him when he does good things - like NOT WHINING! That whining is going to send me to the looney bin!!!! He asked to go to McDonald's last night and when I said no, he said "OK mommy!" I almost fainted! I praised him like crazy for not whining. He said you're welcome. That's the first thin he told his dad when he came home. He was so excited to tell him. I just really hope that your son's teacher is patient with him. Another route to try is to start a notebook that goes to and from school in his back pack and you can write notes back and forth to eachother - good and bad. We did that for a while, but he has since been put with a new teacher and I haven't found its been necessary yet - but we'll see when parent/teacher conference time rolls around! However, the psychologist got out of him that he is "angry" for being taken out of Mrs. V's class. That was news to me! These little children sometimes just need a way to let out their frustrations that we as parents can't seem to accomplish or figure out. Who knows???
