 | I felt like it was me writing your message! I finally got my son into an Occupational Therapy evalutation and based the therapist's initial evaluation and my answers to their questions, they have determined that he is developmentally delayed. The psychologist does not feel that he has ADD, although many of his symptoms mimic ADD. What does your son's teacher say? Have you had numerous conferences with the principal and teacher like we have? We are fortunate that the school system we are in is wonderful and they are very understanding. He has a problem with his motor coordination and visual perception. I'm not sure exactly what that means, but we hope to start therapy in a few weeks. The therapists goal is to teach him ways to calm himself due to the fact that he is so aware of surrounding noises and is easily distracted AND irritated. We have seen drastic improvements in him since my husband and I are working hard on consistent discipline techniques between us and backing eachother up. We have learned to step in and take over when the other is visably frustrated. All I can say is DON'T STOP with the discipline. At some point, I swear, its got to kick in!! I HOPE! Look into an OT evaluation for your son. The psychologist also wants his vision and hearing checked. Have you thought about taking him to a psychologist? I really feel its help him and also, I think the personal relationship he is establishing with her my benefit him in the future. He sees her twice a month and its worth every penny!! We really trust her! If he gets in trouble in school. We tell her before she sees him and she talks to him about it without us in the room. Well, I could go on and on and on.....GOOD LUCK!! |
