SUBJECT: Homeschooling for (possible) ADD 2nd grade boy?
Help! My 2nd grade 8.5yrs old does hardly ANY work in class. His teachers and school psychologist believe he has ADD. We have received all the services (SST, IEP, etc.) the school is willing to provide. We all acknowledge that he is very bright and that he does well when he gets a lot of individual attention and close supervision. However, because they find that he has no "learning disability" they are unable to modify the curriculum or provide additional help for him in the classroom. We have tried one medication (Concerta) with absolutely no positive results but plenty of unpleasant side effects. Our school Psychologist has urged us to consult yet anothe doctor and to try different medications and/or higher dosages until we find something that works. I am tired of trying to "fix" my child and am considering home schooling. Advice appreciated!
