I really find all of these messages very disturbing about all of you mothers putting your babies on their stomachs to sleep. We are not just talking about a "few" concerned pediatricians that have come to this determination that it's not safe and it may cause SIDS, we are talking about the American Academy of Pediatricians. These are a group of trained and very experienced doctors who have studies of SIDS at their hands, and have attended seminars and talked with other doctors about this problem. If you feel you can risk your baby's life by going against their advice, then you take that risk. But I would think that a few sleepless nights until your baby "learns" to sleep on his or her back would make my worries become slight, rather than risking putting my baby on his back and worry about whether I ran to catch the phone or the door, or God forbid a nap of my own, and come back and realize that he has stopped breathing. I don't wish to take that risk.
