 | Help! I took my three month old son to the Dr. on Friday because of a nagging 1st cold - he's had it for three weeks. They said he had a minor ear infection and gave him some antibiotics. The real problem is...they weighed him and found that he's only gained 2 ounces since his two month checkup. He was born 6lbs3oz, at one month was 7.13, at two months was 10.6 and Friday (3 months and one week) was 10.8. So, he was admitted to the hospital Friday evening for a whole rash of tests. They did extensive blood work, ultrasounds, upper and lower GI, chest x-rays and a few others. They are looking for anything that can explain his sudden lack of weight gain. He's breastfed and eats the same he always has. He's actually keeping more down - he has reflux and used to spit up everything. But a month ago, he started taking prevacid and he's almost stopped spitting up - just a very small amount each feeding. He's never eaten more then 3 ounces at a feeding - usually just 1 1/2 - 2 1/2. So far, all of the tests have come back normal. They let us go home last night because there wasn't any other testing they could do until Monday. Tomorrow I take him back in for a sweat test - it's a test for Cystic Fibrosis. I'm trying not to panic - because there really isn't any reason to at this point. But I'm worried sick and wondering if anyone else recognizes what the problem might be? The doctors are convinced it's nothing I'm doing with regards to my diet, my milk, etc. Any ideas?? |
