I completely agree with "smartm." I have a 5 month old daughter who has a bowel once every 3 or 4 days- not every day. She is perfectly healthy and the doctor says it's fine. I ahve also read in "Parents" magazine it's common for infants to have bowels only every few days or so. As long as the baby is not straining- turning red and there is no blood in her bowels, she probably is not constipated. All babies get funny faces and push hard. I would definitely talk to my doctor- pediatrician before given the baby karo syrup. Definitely DO NOT give the baby any fruit juice mainly because it would be way too harsh on her stomach and could possibly worsen constipation. I'm no doctor, but I am a stay at home mom and spend the most part of my days on-line learning about babies and children, watching the "Today Show" where they often talk about children conditions, and reading baby magazines. If the baby is constipated a lot you need to have her seen by a doctor- something could be wrong with her. If she is on formula- try changing it by gradually mixing it into her current formula and see if that helps. My crazy older sister started her 2 week old daughter on cereal- if your daughter is being fed any cereal at this age I would reccomend you stop- that will definitely cause constipation!
