Blow dry your son's bare bottom at diaper changes. Be sure to use a low-heat, gentle setting on the dryer. (We used to keep a small blow dryer hanging over the side of our son's changing table, always ready.)

If possible, let your son go without a diaper for a little time each day. We used to put a couple cloth diapers beneath our son and one loosely draped over him -- gave his tender skin some breathing room.

Tried-and-true Desitin is good, too. But I think the blow dryer was key. (Our son got some bad diaper rashes on long-term antibiotics and we got pretty good at treating them.)
