How can I break a 9 month old from co-sleeping

I have a 9 month old daughter who, until recently, slept throughout the night in our bed. Now she is starting to wake up EVERY night at 12 am and staying awake unil about 2-3. I really want to put her in her own bed to sleep but she is very strong-willed, as Im sure many children are (she will cry for hours if we let her-and I cant stand it!) Does anyone have any suggestions besides the Cry It Out method? And are these two sleep issues tied together somehow? Any suggestions would be appreciated-this is our first child.
