PCOS is Polycystic Ovary Syndrome meaning that you dont ovulate and the eggs stay in the ovaries and turn into little cysts..which then causes you to not get pregnant due to the eggs not leaving the ovary. There are many sites on PCOS that explain it into greater detail. Some of the things PCOS causes is insulin resistance, weight gain and unable to lose, hair growth on the face, or loss, irregular periods, and your hormones go out of whack. Metformin is a drug that regulates insulin and is given to diabetics to regulate it. It can be given to PCOS patients (like me) because they can be pre-diabetic. It is figured that once the insulin is regulated that you start losing the weight that you havent been able to lose, which once you start losing the weight the hormones start to get back to the way they are supposed to be and you start ovulating. I was told many times by my OB to "just lose weight" and that would take care of all of my problems..I would leave there in tears then go and starve myself. After a few years and some testing I found out it was all from PCOS..it was hormonal and not my fault I wasn't losing the weight. I took a total of maybe 8 pills and then found out I was pregnant. Am now starting my 5th month and have had one ultrasound at 6 weeks, saw the heart beating away, next ultrasound Dec 9th to hopefully see what it is and have heard the heart beat twice now.
