My daughter was diagnosed at the end of third grade, she has a form of dyslexia that the school failed to recognize and even after we insisted failed to test her until we go attorneys involved. PLEASE have him tested!! This made a huge impact on her in a positive way!

Be careful with private schools as they are not bounded by law to hire cerified trained special ed staff nor are they bound to be "made" to make accommodations for your son. DO your research!! We hemmed and hawed about special schools (and still do) but for right now the public school is doing a great job....and because they do not like our "informed" educational consultant they make sure she gets everything she needs because the law says they have to. If you feel you are not getting what you need from your school call the State Department of Education and see if they can assign you a free State Advocate...sometimes a school does not mean to be negligent sometimes they just don't understand the law (believe that or not..it is true).

Do NOT be afraid to advocate for your child and do not be afraid to ask questions...I suggest you be as "un"defensive as possible and try to enlist the school into working with you as a team..it is a VERY emotional thing and sometimes PPT's can get heated....most schools mean to do the best..but sometimes they mean to save money.

Get him the help he needs and you will see a totally different child!
