My daughter would vomit shortly after drinking anything with milk in it. She couldn't drink milk based formulas at all. And, when she was ready for solid foods, she couldn't eat anything with milk in it (custards, yogurt, ice cream, cream, milk, gravy, cheese, etc.) She was allergic to a milk protein. Not the lactose. She was not lactose intolerant but acutally was allergic to the protein. That's what tipped us off. We once fed her some Gerber macaroni and cheese dinner and she vomited for 4 hours. Poor thing. So, it was total cows milk avoidance. Now that she's 17 months old she can drink milk but she was over a year old before the allergy cleared up. My pediatrician said that most children do grow out of it. But, sometimes it can take up to 3 years for that to happen. She was on formula until she got to where she could tolerate milk. I've wondered myself why Nutramigen was so expensive. Ridiculous.
