IN REPLY TO: FAMILY BED
AUTHOR: SINGLEMOM
I have a 5 year old son that has slept in my bed since his birth. His father has great objections about this arrangement (we have never lived together or slept in the same bed during my son's life) My daughter is now 9 months old and she sleeps with us also. I have found that most single parents I know practice this same routine and their children are all very content and secure with their parents. I strongly believe that a parent has the right to choose if their children sleep with them or not and that there is nothing wrong with this practice. In fact, I believe that our children will grow up with more self confidence and security because they will never have to wonder how their parents feel about them. Even when I am angry about something my son has done, he knows when it is bed time we will cuddle up and sleep together and that I will always love him and want to be close to him. I feel that you should be proud of the fact that you show your child this affection and that you don't let the rules of "social aceptance" hinder you in your bonding and understanding of a child's need to feel loved.
