IN REPLY TO: Boot Camp for Lazy, Spoiled, Bratty 14-year old boy???
AUTHOR: TheCloud
Let me begin by saying you are not alone with this type of problem! I've read many of the replies you received, and noticed quite a few saying this is your typical 14 year old boy. I however, do not believe that one bit. My neighbors child, who is 16 is twice as bad as what you described. My son is 11, and giving me the same problems you noted: lazy, mouthy, bad grades, attitude, etc... I have tried everything: counseling (a joke!), grounding him, talking gently with him, meetings with teachers, doctor visits, etc... everything short of taking him out behind the shed and putting the fear of god into him with a good ole fashion whippin. Which I feel is what the majority of children now-a-days could benefit from. However, laws now prohibit this, and therefore we end up with many disrespectful, selfish, and unproductive future adults. Just let me say: when I was young my parents put the fear of god into me, yet never once was I touched. You see, those were the days when children knew with one look from mom to 'knock it off immediately'. Today, these looks from mom mean nothing. So what are we left to do? One reply stated that if we send our child off to boot camp, we are pushing our problems off on someone else. I say, if we do nothing now while they are young, who's "problem" do they become when they are older?? Everone's! It'll be strangers tax dollars helping to pay to house my child at the local prison! This is not what I want for my child's future. So, when all avenues have been explored and nothing has helped, what do you do next? The problems have been so severe that they are causing arguements within my marriage. And I am at my wits end. If you find a solution, please let me know. Best wishes.
