SUBJECT: child biting & teacher/child ratio
What is the mother of the child biter suppose to do if their child is biting? Sure they can work with them at home but the child spends most of their time at the daycare. Shouldn't the daycare do everything they can to try to prevent it from happening in the first place? But what if the state law ratio over requires one teacher for every 5 toddlers? How is the world can the teacher prevent this if she is changing another child's diaper or helping another child with something? Basically, she can't because she's got her hands full.
My 14-mth old is the one that is getting bit plus she is also starting to bite…in most cases to protect herself because another kid was pulling her hair or trying to bite or hit her when the teacher was busy doing something else. I've talked to the Owner of the daycare about this but she says she can't afford to hire another person & that they will do what they can to prevent my child from getting bit. But I don't see how if they don't get some more help. If they had more supervision (another teacher is the room), I believe all this biting could be prevented.
I don't want to have to take my child out of daycare because who's to say this won't happen somewhere else? From reading all your responses it sounds like it is happening everywhere! And I've called other day cares & most have the same teacher/child ratio. Some kick out the child biters but that's not right because what happens when my child's biting gets out of control?
Does anyone have a better solution?
