| Sexually abusive spanking is not some new modern problem, it goes back for centuries--except insofar as children were punished so severely back then that we wouldn't call it "spanking." We might instead be arguing over sexually abusive whipping, flogging, birching or something like that. The Marquis de Sade was an extreme example of what is historically known as FLAGELLANTISM (though not all flagellants are necessarily sadists). But nowadays, people are wiser to it.
Here are as couple of older references:
