My baby had a rash on her face for a while. It was because she would drool and then spread it all over her face with her hand. I put pure lanolin on it (same stuff you use for breastfeeding) and it cleared up very quickly. The lanolin water proofs the skin while it heals.

It could also be from a food allergy. Did you introduce something new to his diet? If you're not sure, cut out whatever you're feeding him for a day or and see if it clears up. If it doesn't, it's probably from the drool. My Dr says that food allergies generally show up as hives though.
