SUBJECT: Help ASAP
I am in serious need of help! I have a 13 yr old stepson.(I am going to try to make this short)
He has always been "lazy" but is getting worse. Of course it doesn't bother his dad as much as me, simply because I am the one that deals with it more.
His dad is a "softy" when it comes to punishing. He lets up, and feels bad that he is bored, etc.
I am a stickler for what I say. And have no problem sticking to it.
But, it just seems that lately no matter what is done to him, he just doesn't care. He will change while he is being punished, and MAYBE for a few days afterwards, but I feel like he just doesn't care about anything but what he wants.
Currently he is grounded from everything. He has no priveleges whatsoever. He walks around all cocky "knowing" he will be off in a week, which is not true. I told him he is ungrounded when he proves he can be responsible, not a set time. But I allready feel like it is a waste of time, because he will go back to the same stuff. What can I do that is going to help him WANT to not be so apathetic? It is driving me nuts! I really don't know what discipline will work. It has never been longer than a week, and even then he was still having some priveleges, so I am wondering if having none at all for an extended period of time will work?
