3rd grade is NOT too young! Some girls begin menstruating as early as 8--third grade age. And some parents won't talk about it with their children. It's better for them to learn about it than be scared when it happens. No one told my mom about it, and when she got her first period, she thought she was dying! She had to have her older sister tell her about the facts of life.
