SUBJECT: sleepless nites
I have a 17mo old daughter who has begun waking several times in the middle of the night screaming. She has had the ability to calm herself and go to sleep on her own since she was 5mo old. She has an extremely predictable schedule and bedtime routine. We always lay her in her crib while she is still awake and she falls asleep on her own. Until recently she would take 1or2 2hr naps during the day and sleep 12 hours at night. Until recently, once we put her to sleep at 8p, we wouldn't hear a peep from her until 7 or 8am. She wakes at all different times of the night, does not appear to be night terrors, but cries and cries unless I go in and hold her for a minute. She will calm down or actually fall back to sleep. Then, when I leave the room she starts screaming again. No longer will she cry it out and return back to sleep..we went round and round with her for three hours last night. I am trying to reassure her that everything is ok without her becoming dependent on mommy getting her back to sleep! Please, if there is anyone out there that could give me some insight into this or just a little encouragement, I would appreciate it!!
