eczema is usually a result of some kind of allergy the baby has when the baby is less than 1 year old or so. usually it can be due to the rice cereal or some other food he is eating, the soap used to wash him, the detergent used on his clothes etc, even his formula can cause it. it usually clears up after the baby outgrows it after a year or so.

i'd go easy on the hydrocortisone cause it can have adverse effects on the baby's health if you use it all over his skin. small amounts for a few days is alright but not for chronic use. prescription steroid creams/ointments should be avoided whenever possible!

my son has a touch of eczema and i use eucerin to keep it soft and non irritated and no hydrocortisone. it looks like it is going away. he is almost 6 months now.
