Same problem with my child, same age...but it was with her not turning in daily assignments. The principal and teacher said, "We start teaching children to be responsible for their actions in 3rd grade...we cannot tell you if there is a missing assignment, it is your child's responsibility to do so." I couldn't believe it, my 8-year-old is now a responsible member of society! So she's allowed to fail, who cares if she didn't learn what she was supposed to...she wasn't responsible enough to turn it in (what has happened to society?) I'm frustrated at my daughter, but even more frustrated that they let this happen. These kids are there to learn not be taught lessons. I think 3rd grade is a bit early for this.
