My son just turned one at the end of September, and since it was such a special day, I spoiled him rotten! The baker we bought the birthday cake from baked my son his very own (much smaller) cake. It was adorable. And, it was free. The baker said almost all bakeries give the birthday baby a free cake. It probably wasn't the healthiest thing, but it didn't hurt. And he really didn't even want to eat it. He does like ice cream, which he gets a taste of occasionally. And that has never hurt him. I think most sweets are okay, in moderation. If you have the book "What to expect the first year" (which is like my bible, along with "What to expect the Toddler Years") there is a recipe for a sugar free birthday cake with icing.
Hope the party turns out great!!!
P.S. Cow's milk is okay now, as long as it is WHOLE milk. I am not sure about honey. I think it is, but I won't give it to my son yet. I would rather be safe that sorry. Give your pediatrician a call to be sure.
