SUBJECT: Have PCO, taking Metformin and finally pregnant
Hi, I am new to this board and web site. I found it today and am shocked to find nothing on PCO (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome). My husband and I have been trying actively for 4 years now to get pregnant. To make a long story short and after a lot of tests we found out that I have PCO and were told that there was no cure and that was the reason I was not getting pregnant. This didn't make sense to me because I have an 11 yr old daughter from a previous relationship. After many doctors visits and reading up anywhere and everywhere about PCO I heard about Metformin and talked to my OB about it. She then told me to talk to my family Dr. about it. I talked to my Dr. and she started me on Metformin that day (Aug 6 2002). My last period was 8-4-02 and I was due to start 9-2-02 and never did. On Sept 5th I took a home test and it came up positive right away. After thinking I was pregnant many times before and getting nothing but a negative result, I was in shock when the test showed positive right away. I went to my dr. office and did another test that same day to verify and within a few hours I had my second positive result. I am very anxious to talk to others that are going through the same thing I am. I am excited and scared at the same time..normal pregnancy feelings I know. I have heard that staying on Metformin greatly reduces the chance of miscarriage, I have also heard to take it throughout the whole pregnancy but my dr. is saying we are going to stay on it during the first trimester. I am so confused, but will do what my dr. says. I am currently 9 weeks pregnant, morning sickness has definately kicked in (which I have heard is a good sign). We had an u/s on Sept 20 and saw our little beans heart beating away (I was 6 weeks at that point). We are due somewhere between May 11,03 (Happy Mothers Day) and May 13, 03. I would really like someone to talk to.
Thanks in advance.
