SUBJECT: Questions about ADD
My 8 year old son's teacher would like to have him tested for ADD. I have been scouring the web all day for information so that I can be informed. I must admit, its a bit overwhelming.

I saw several things that said sometimes there is misdiagnosis to sleep disorders or that the child has a sleep disorder in addition to ADD. I was just wondering if any of you experienced, that your child didn't require much sleep at all before they were diagnosed. My son sleeps about 6 hours a night. I have tried everything from reading and structured routines changing bedtimes, you name it. Very rarely does he fall asleep before midnight. He doesn't nap afterschool or fall asleep at school. I have spoke with his pediatricians over the years about this but I always get "some children don't require as much sleep as others." After reading that there might be a link between ADD and sleep disorders, I am a little more leary of just accepting that answer. Any help you could offer me would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
