 | It is extremely unfortunate at the attitude taken here. #1) I hardly believe that any kindergartener is being 'robbed' of an education as you so eloquently state. #2) It is unfortunate, as I wrote to nixmom317 in another forum prior to seeing your posting, that people automatically assume it is a discipline issue. Our son could suffer through hours of discipline and it still does not teach him how to control some uncontrollable impulses. We continue to investigate this. #3) Instead of an indignant attitude you should read something like this and be thankful that it's not your child. Out of 5 children this is a first for us. It's very hard to comprehend but out of extreme love for our child we will understand before drastic measures are taken, which brings me to my next point... #4) Too many children are being put in 'chemical straight jackets' because of people with attitudes like yours. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure that there are many children that legitimately need meds, however, there are alot, I believe, that are put on these meds because people/teachers/parents like yourself, just don't want to deal with a child that may not sit still and fit into the 'cookie cutter'. There's something wrong with our diagnosing when you find that the USA consumes 90% of the worlds supply of Ritalin. Hurry up...find a cure...quick fix...
I don't know how many children you have or what their ages are but I would offer you a little bit of advice: try to be a little more sensitive to the anguish a parent might be going through having a child that doesn't fit the 'cookie cutter' and being well aware of parents and teachers with the same attitude as yours. Be careful of your harsh judgment, what goes around comes around!!!
To nixmom317: I hope to continue to see some helpful information posted in these forums. Did you see the forum discussing caffeine? Parents have had some pretty interesting results with this. Caffeine is a stimulant in adults but acts the opposite in children. Very interesting. Take care and good luck. |
