SUBJECT: Advice to parents of toddlers! Please read
Does everyone expect their 3 year old to act differently than a 3 year old?!?

It's very upsetting to me that so many people are writing about their babies like there's something wrong with them because they're not acting like an adult or like their friend/relatives child.

Some even go so far to say their child is ignorant, evil or bad. Some are even predicting a 4 year old's future as a serial killer if the parents don't get her serious professional help!!! It amazes me!

Children aren't born to understand right and wrong. They don't pop out of you undertanding the permenance of death, what love and respect is, how to behave according to your standards. And most of all, children have their own personality and temperment.

Try and see the positive in your child's behavior. If they have emotional outbursts recognize that they will be good communicators and passionate. If they're stubborn they will be smart. My toddler gets really angry and I know she will never let anyone treat her badly! She's very strong willed! If they get mad when they don't get what they want they are going to be motivated in life. Learn to love and appreciate your child.

Don't ever expect your child to be you. Your child is going to grow up and be slower or faster than you, smarter or dumber than you, and they're going to have their own opinion, most of the time not yours!

Children will learn patience, loving, understanding, appropriate behavior, repect, honesty and communication by their parents example and by how their parents treat them.

If you spank and yell at your child you're teaching them it's okay to lose control, it's okay to become violent, it's okay to treat someone disrespectfully. If you lie to them how can you condemn them for lying to you? If you hit them how can you condemn them for hitting? If your not honest and don't talk to them about everything they want to know, they're not going to talk to you when it really matters.

Treat your children with respect and understanding. Do some research and find out how normal your childs behavior is. You wouldn't want your husband/wife to smack and yell at you if you were in a bad mood and needed a nap.

Screaming, crying and throwing fits is a result of their inability to communicate their feelings. You would do the same thing if you couldn't talk. Heck, some of you are doing it now and you can talk! Either they're too young to communicate or they feel no one listens to them.

Treasure your babies/children. Appreciate each phase and what they're putting you through. Write letters to them so later you can sit and read them with your child and laugh at what a hard time they gave you. I just had a great time doing that with my 12 year old. Time goes by way to fast and your kids will be grown before you know it. Love them for who they are now.

To all the parents who lose control.....Grow up! You act like a toddler and need to take parenting classes. Did you think being a parent would be easy?!?!?!?!

Have fun!
Kim
