Please take a parenting class and seek some counseling for yourself. For being so well bred and well educated (your opinion alone) you seem to have many anger issues. You’re like a cat backed into a corner. Obviously someone else has challenged your views in the past for you to be so jumpy and critical of strangers. FYI: I am a mother of 5 great kids. All teens. One in college. One of our children was “out of control” and we were forced to send that child away to a VERY expensive boarding school. Been there, done that. We did what we needed to do at the time and as hard as it was…we never regret our decision. Our child is back home now, alive, and doing very well. My point to this is; I (as well as many other parents on this board) know first hand what to expect from a normal 14 year old and what not to because we’re parents. We have lived through it. You have not. Laziness, awkwardness, spoiled & bratty are all terms to describe kids at this age. The teen years are the most self-absorbed times of life. Expect it and keep guiding the ship. If you are concerned that this young man has something outside of the norms of 14 plaguing him, seek medical assistance. Especially since you had referenced in your first post that his mother has a mood disorder. When he stops coming home at night, attempts to kill himself or harm a member of your family, is so depressed he wont get out of bed and is failing (F’s) all of his classes, doing drugs, committing crimes……Now you have big problems. If this is the direction you see him headed, hopefully, you’ll seek help for him immediately. Otherwise, ease up and let him be himself. Respect him for his differences and encourage his successes. You’ll have a much better relationship in the future, if your future is staying in your current relationship with his father. You have elected to become part of this family. Now open your heart and open your eyes. Best of luck to you and your family.
