SUBJECT: Freedom of choice
While it is ultimately up to the parents to set standards the child should have a choice of what she will or won't wear. A child can't be herself if she isn't comfortable. As long as she dresses modestly there is no reason not to let her choose what to wear. Within reason. Modest being clothing that won't automatically make you think of sex. I don't see anything wrong with sleevless tops but any clothing that reveals the belly I would consider inappropriate. The school system has a fine policy for clothing, and while it is up to the parents to make sure their children follow that policy there is nothing wrong with the school enforcing the policy on those whose parents don't care what they wear. People are always saying that parents are letting the school system raise their kids, in some instances it is most likely for the best. Most parents do the best they can and sometimes it isn't good enough, there is no reason why outside influences can't help out. Clothing is just one of those things that people are always going to argue about, but you should let your child have as much say in what she will be wearing this school year. otherwise how are they going to create their own individual personalities? Fads will always change, modesty won't. Who knows maybe next years fad will be long skirts and turtlenecks.
